Greening heading to AHL

-

The Ottawa Senators placed forward Colin Greening of St. John’s on waivers on Friday. With an cap hit of $2.65 million perseason for the next two years, Greening is widely expected to clear waivers and be assigned to the Senator’s American Hockey League affiliate in Binghamton “He would like to play in the NHL but we need him to go down (to Binghamton) and play well,” general manager Bryan Murray told the Ottawa Sun on Friday morning. “If he’s one of the top guys down there, and we know there are injuries, he’ll get that chance. I also told him if we could help him move to another team — if that was in his best interests — I’ve tried very hard so far. If we can do that, we'll do that." Last year, Greening appeared in only 26 games in his fourth full NHL season, and was even banished to the minors for a spell. He managed but a single goal for Ottawa, the third straight year his production has declined.
