Blades, Celtics win twice

The Mount Pearl Marks Blades and Northeast Pizza Delight Aberdeen Celtics both enjoyed a pair of wins in weekend play in the Penney Mazda St. John’s Junior Hockey League.

The Blades defeated the C.B.N. MoorFrost Stars 4-2 on Bobby Upshall’s two goals, while the Celtics received a three-goal performanc­e from Liam O’Reilly in a 5-2 decision over Avalon Roebothan McKay Marshall Capitals.

At The Glacier in Mount Pearl, Colin O’Neil and Grant Thompson also scored for the winners, while Ryan Dawson and Cody Batten replied. The Blades outshot their guests 40-30. Jungle Jim’s players of the game were Upshall and Batten.

At Jack Byrne Arena, Scott Cahill and Josh Nolan netted singles for the Celtics, who received a 51-save performanc­e from Brandon Short. Cody Barron and Zac Tucker replied for Avalon. A.J. Rooney turned aside 34 shots for the Caps.

O’Reilly and the Caps’ Josh Crane were the players of the game.

In other games over the weekend, Mount Pearl beat Avalon 85, the St. John’s Hickman Automotive Group Caps slipped past CBR Assante Wealth Management Renegades 4-3, the Celtics beat the Trinity-Placentia I.J. Smith Home Building Centre Flyers 6-4 and St. John’s downed C.B.N. 4-2.
