Global Office recognizes Ronald McDonald House N.L.
Give Hearts and Hands Award and a $10,000 Grant
Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Newfoundland and Labrador ® and its “Strength In Numbers Volunteer Gathering” were recognized with an RMHC Hearts and Hands Award and a $10,000 grant during the Charity’s biennial International Conference held in Chicago, IL., late August. Through this award, the familycentered charity recognizes the most impactful programs and best practices developed by local chapters in response to the critical needs of children in their communities.
RMHC awarded several grants to Chapters that achieved exceptional results in the delivery of vital services, care and compassion to children and their families. Ronald McDonald House Newfoundland and Labrador was one of only five chapters recognized in the category of Strengthening Networks.
The Strength In Numbers Volunteer Gathering has become an annual training and recognition event for volunteers with Ronald McDonald House Newfoundland and Labrador. The gathering included local families, donors, supporters and volunteers. It is an opportunity to share the highlights of the annual impact report of the house based in St. John’s and also included fun team-building activities, training exclusive for House Operations and Community Fundraising volunteers, as well as recognition of local volunteers and supporters with the highlight of the event being the presentation of local Helping Hand Awards, in honour of volunteer and board member, the late Dr. Jack Hand.
Following the event, volunteers expressed feelings of rejuvenation, motivation and felt appreciated for all their hard work and dedication to the char- Crew-Walk for Families. Other outcomes included: Increase in participation by 38 per cent; 71 per cent of event hosts renewed their commitment in 2014 and 2015 Number of events increased by 16% Overall results increased by 42 per cent.

Ronald McDonald House Newfoundland and Labrador is a home-away-from-home for families, providing comfortable and affordable accommodations to families while their children receive medical care at the Janeway Children’s Hospital in St. John’s.
