Knight, Hamilton lead medal haul for province
Four provincial records set at Atlantic championships
Evan Knight and Josh Hamilton both won three gold medals, while Jennifer Boland, Chantal Barnes and Amanda Wilkins each claimed two as part of Newfoundland and Labrador’s medal harvest at the Atlantic track and field championships held in Saint John, N.B., over the weekend.
Other gold-medal winners from the province were Erica Hayward, Shae LeDevehat and Levi Moulton.
All the gold medals came on the track, except for three — Hayward’s and one of Hamilton’s were won in long jump competitions, while LeDevehat’s was earned in the pentathlon.
Four new provincial records were set in the competition. Evan Knight smashed the old midget-class standards in both the 1,200-metres (in a time of three minutes and 15.87 seconds) and 2,000m (5:54.27); Hamilton set a new youth record in the long jump (6.61 metres); and Boland set a new junior record in the 100m dash (12.56 seconds).

Chantal Barnes (female 1617) — gold in the 400m and 800m
Amanda Wilkins (female 20-34) — gold in the 1500m and 5000m
Erica Hayward (female 20-34) — gold in long jump
Shae LeDevehat (female 1415) — gold in pentathlon, silver in 200m hurdles
Levi Moulton (male 16-17)— gold in the 800m, silver in the 1,500m
Makaila Hudson (female 1819) — silver in the 800m and 1,500m
Emily Foley (female 14-15) — silver in the pentathlon
Eric Knight (male 12-15) — bronze in the 300m and 800m
Gerard Power (male 20-34) — bronze in 400m and 800m
Molly Pomeroy (female 12-15) — bronze in the 200m and 300m
Caitriona Bonia (female 1617) — bronze in discus and javelin
