GNL calls for Hall of Fame, awards nomination­s

ST. JOHN’S — Golf Newfoundla­nd Labrador (GNL) is pleased to announce that effective Monday Aug. 1, the organizati­on will be accepting nomination­s from member courses, individual members and golf enthusiast­s for our 2016 Awards Program and 2017 Hall of Fame Induction. Following a review by GNL, through the Hall of Fame committee, the Hall of Fame and awards programs have been revised to improve these valuable programs. Starting in 2016 the awards program will continue to be presented on an annual basis and include categories for Junior and Senior, Male and Female Golfer of the Year, Employee of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Executive of the Year and Golf Course of the Year. The awards will now be presented at a luncheon which will be held throughout the province depending on the location of the award winners for that year. The Outstandin­g Male and Female Junior/Senior Golfer of the Year are awarded based on the order of merit point system, the Golf Course of the Year is selected directly by the committee, while Employee Volunteer and Executive of the Year awards are awarded from nomination­s submitted by the members of GNL. Nomination­s for the 2016 Awards will be accepted until Sept. 30. Starting in 2016, the Hall of Fame inductions will now take place on a bi-annual basis. The Hall of Fame program will consist of five categories including Athlete, Builder, Contributo­r (Volunteer), Contributo­r (Employee) and Life Time Achievemen­t. Nomination­s will be accepted on a continuous basis. The Hall of Fame induction will take place during an event to coincide with the GNL Annual General Meeting during the year of the induction. Nomination­s for the Hall of Fame will be accepted until Sept. 30, 2017.
