St. Patrick’s Convent slated to close
St. Patrick’s Convent in St. John’s is closing Wednesday, according to information in a St. Patrick’s church bulletin.
The Presentation Sisters could not be reached for immediate comment.
According to the church bulletin, a closing liturgy will be held Sept. 11 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church.
Ward 2 Coun. Jonathan Galgay released a statement on the impending closure Tuesday.
“The Presentation Sisters have made a significant impact on the lives of so many people living in the City of St. John’s and throughout the province. St. Patrick’s Convent is a historic piece of property, which is 160 years old and slated to officially close tomorrow Aug. 31, 2016,” Galgay said, in wishing the Presentation Sisters well. “As a child I have fond memories of the Sisters teaching me and being a part of our parish community of St. Patrick’s Church in St. John’s. That relationship continues to foster during my visits to the Motherhouse and during special occasions in our community.”
