Lulzim Jakupaj is behind bars since his arrest in May, having been denied bail shortly afterwards.

However, in provincial court in St. John’s Tuesday, the defence requested a bail review. Prosecutor Dana Sullivan indicated the Crown is opposed to having Jakupaj freed from prison.

Judge Mike Madden agreed to set a date for a bail review, which would be held at Newfoundland Supreme Court. A date has yet to be scheduled.

Jakupaj faces three charges — two counts of sexual assault and one count of break and enter.

One of the assaults was said to have happened March 21-22 in Mount Pearl, while the second allegedly happened March 31 in Paradise. Jakupaj was said to have broken into a home in the capital city on May 21.

Jakupaj — who is originally from Kosovo — was committed to stand trial following a preliminary inquiry on the break and enter charge. A preliminary inquiry on the two sexual assault charges is set for October.
