Solo sailor rescued
A sailor attempting to cross the Atlantic solo was plucked to safety around 5:30 p.m. by a Search and Rescue Cormorant helicopter after he ran into trouble 185 nautical miles south of St. John’s. A spokesman for the Joint Rescue Co-Ordination Centre in Halifax said the sailor is in good health, but the rescue was challenging due to strong winds and up to six-metre waves. The sailor was delivered to the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s to be checked as a precautionary measure. See more photos and video www.thetelegram.com.
