-

The conclusion of the annual Tely Tour Championship held at Terra Nova Resort & Golf Community on Monday Aug. 29, represented the end of an era as the Tely Tour will transition to become part of the operation of Golf Newfoundland Labrador (GNL) beginning in 2017. To a standing ovation, Tely Tour Commissioner Miller Ayre, executive director Bruce Watson, and rules director Kay Thompson were acknowledged by GNL, its Board of Directors, member clubs and general membership for their commitment, dedication and passion to promote, educate and develop junior golf across the province for the past 11 years. GNL’s executive director, Greg Hillier had the honour of presenting each individual with a small token of appreciation for the creation, development, operation and management of the Tely Tour. Hillier thanked the trio stating that “through the tireless dedication, determination, and passion to develop junior golf, the program has had a major positive impact on increasing the knowledge, calibre and engagement of junior players across the province.” The Tely Tour was created to promote golf as a healthy and fun activity, provide opportunities for players to gain competitive experience and promote an understanding of and appreciation for the rules. GNL will continue to strive to meet these objectives and hopes to build on the success of the program that has been developed over the past 11 years.
