A man was arrested and three people sent to hospital following an incident involving a car and several pedestrians on Bartlett Place Saturday night near 9 p.m.

Information from the scene indicates the suspect, the car’s driver, may have deliberately injured the three people walking on the street and then collided with a parked commercial truck in a driveway.

When The Telegram arrived, 20 year-old David Loveys was handcuffed and was being read his rights as Eastern Health paramedics treated the victims in three separate ambulances.

Loveys was later charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and assault with a weapon.

A second male had to be restrained by RNC officers on scene as he shouted at the suspect and a third man, a parent to one of the victims, also had to be restrained and calmed by officers as he tried to gain access to the suspect.

Loveys was treated on scene by paramedics for apparent irritant spray exposure to his eyes. He was placed in the rear of a police cruiser and taken from the area as police taped off the scene for investigators.

Two of the victims were treated for serious but non lifethreatening injuries while the third was treated for minor injuries and released.

Both the car and the truck were extensively damaged in the incident.

Loveys appeared in provincial court Sunday morning.
