Details can beautify a room

-

Moldings and columns are two types of architectural detail that can add beauty to a room by adding emphasis and relief. They also add character and a personalized touch to any decorating project. What's more, they add an additional dimension to a room and create a focal point for the eye. Baseboards are moldings that are installed where the floor and walls meet. Often they are extended with a quarterround to hide imperfections. Frames are used to help the visual transition from a wall to a window or door. Doorstops are used to securely hold a door open in place. All these elements are relatively easy to replace for styles that are more attractive and original. To create a warm atmosphere and increase the cosiness of a room, decorative moldings can be installed at the top of the wall where it meets the ceiling. Cornices add a nice finish, and cove moldings create uniformity between the ceiling and the wall, while hiding the wallpaper's edge. These decorations should always be sized in proportion to the size of the doorframe in the room. Corner moldings can help the visual transition of walls with different finishes as well as hide current or future flaws. In addition, superimposed moldings can create a stunning impact for any room. Attractive railing can be added to walls to protect them from being marked by the backs of chairs. They will also help to interrupt large surfaces, and add an exquisite decorative element. And don't forget the sumptuous luxury that columns can add. Photo at right shows decorative moldings and columns - great ways to add beauty to any room.
