ask THE PEOPLE

- BY MIKE MOORE

The announcement came early Friday morning about the acts that will fill the main stage on George Street for the annual weeklong festival. The concert series happens at the end of July and into early August.

Public comments varied regarding the lineup, and we asked a few people to share their thoughts.

Becky Fulford, St. John’s

“I think it’s typical. I think it’s standard for a St. John’s George Street Fest lineup. I do wish they would switch it up a little bit, but I was very excited that Blue Rodeo is playing. I think they should switch up the kitchen party on Saturday and have something new and fresh or maybe even switch it to Sunday. It seems like the same old, same old.”

Jeremy Howard, C.B.S.

“It’s kind of like the Cantina band from Star Wars. They’re just playing that same song. I would go see Sam Roberts. All the other lineups, it’s just the same old, same old. It would just be nice to get something fresh instead of washed up musicians that just need a penny. For George Street Fest it’s more for the tourists than the locals. I find less and less locals are going to it. It would just be nice to have someone that wasn’t popular 20 years ago.”

Rich Mccoppin, Arizona

“I would definitely go. My favourite thing about Newfoundland so far has been all the music, traditional and otherwise. I dig it. It’s so vibrant. I was at The Ship last night. Newfoundland is gorgeous and the people are really nice, those are the big things.”
