Newfoundlanders and Labradorians who harvest wood can now renew their domestic cutting permit online for all districts and all domestic cutting areas, the province has announced.

In January, the department launched a pilot project for Districts 7, 10-15, 17-20 and 23, online renewals and that’s been extended.

In a news release, Fisheries and Land Resources said residents who plan to renew their permit online will need the nine digit permit number found on their previous permit, as well as a valid credit card for payment. To complete the process, permit holders will also need to input harvesting information for the past year.

Residents must have had a valid permit issued the previous year.

Residents will not be able to renew online if they are applying for the senior discount for the first time or if they need to change their helper information (they can keep the same helper or remove the helper from the permit however they cannot add a helper through the system).

If approved, the permit will be mailed to the address provided within five to 10 business days. Residents can still visit any Forestry Branch district office to obtain a new permit or to change helper information.

The online renewal application and a map of available cutting areas are available on the government website at www.faa.gov.nl.ca/forestry/permits/license.html#domestic
