Choices for Youth gets $25,000 Orange Door Award from Home Depot

-

Choices for Youth has received a $25,000 Orange Door Award grant from The Home Depot Canada Foundation. The funds will support the organization’s Youth Leadership Council (YLC).

The YLC is an active and passionate group of young people who follow the motto “youth breaking down barriers for youth.” Choices for Youth is one of eight recipients across Canada of a 2017 Orange Door Award grant from The Home Depot Canada Foundation. “We’re excited to receive the Orange Door Award and we’re looking forward to putting the funds to work in support of better futures for young people in St. John’s,” said Sheldon Pollett, executive director, Choices for Youth.

“The Youth Leadership Council has continuously worked to create new opportunities for young people by sharing their own lived experiences to help shape the programs and services being offered throughout Newfoundland and Labrador, and even across the country.”

Youth advisers play a central role in selecting the Orange Door Award winners each year. The advisers evaluate the applications, ensuring that each $25,000 grant goes where it will make the biggest impact in building brighter futures for youth.

“We’re committed to preventing and ending youth homelessness in Canada,” said Jeff Kinnaird, chair, board of directors, The Home Depot Canada Foundation and president, The Home Depot Canada. “Over the past three years we’ve supported the work of more than 300 non-profit organizations, giving them the chance to help more youth in need.”
