Laurentians serve up double bagels
St. Lawrence posts two shutout wins in Challenge Cup play
The defending champion St. Lawrence Laurentians posted a pair of victories over the weekend to improve to 3-1 in the Molson Challenge Cup Soccer League.
The Laurentians’ latest win came Sunday at King George V Park with a 4-0 decision over Holy Cross. The Crusaders, who played to a scoreless tie Saturday with Feildians, are still looking for their first win on the year.
Sunday, the Laurentians got goals from Stefan Slaney, Adam Kelly, Sean Drew and Jordi Slaney, on a penalty kick. Goalkeeper Patrick Slaney helped St. Lawrence to a second straight shutout win. On Saturday, Big Blue blanked the previously unbeaten C.B.S. That Pro Look Strikers 1-0.
In Topsail on Sunday, the Strikers bounced back to register their third win with a 4-0 shutout victory over visiting Corner Brook Steers Insurance. Ryan Day, Erick Mathiasen, Zack Mouland and Nico Boehme scored for the winners. Scott Budden got the shutout.
