Even Paradise has issues that need to be addressed

-

As a resident of Paradise and a person running for council in Paradise, I have been asking myself — as well as others — is the current council doing a good job?

The common answer is yes, it is good enough. I agree that the current council has done some really great things in the past few years. But I can’t help but notice the areas that have been neglected.

The No. 1 thing I have an issue with is the lack of enforcement in Paradise. The town does have municipal enforcement officers on staff, but even so, there continues to be multiple issues with ATVS and dirt bikes being operated on town streets. This is not only a danger to the operators of these machines, but a danger to visitors and residents of the town.

The lack of enforcement could be due to a number of reasons, including too few enforcement officers or the lack of the proper powers to enforce town bylaws in relation to allterrain vehicle use.

Which brings me to my next issue — the lack of enforcement for parking regulations in the Town of Paradise. Recently, I contacted the town about a vehicle blocking the sidewalk. I reached the call centre and they took the information with regard to my complaint. The operator then informed me that he would contact the on-call municipal enforcement officer and have him come out to address the matter. I was not surprised when no one from the town showed up that evening. The following morning I received a phone call from a municipal enforcement officer and he informed me that they had gone to the address of the complaint and the vehicle was gone.

Of course the vehicle was going to be gone, as it was the following day.

Next-day enforcement is simply not good enough.
