Jeremy Earle, leader of this year’s lantern festival and a member of the Friends of Victoria Park, says this year’s festival is going to be the biggest and brightest St. John’s has ever seen.

“There’s something for everybody,” said Earle. “And since this festival has free admission, nobody gets left out.”

Beginning Saturday at 2 p.m., Moksha Yoga will provide a yoga workshop in the park, to ease everybody into the exciting afternoon.

From 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. there will be aquarium touch tanks for the children, along with live local music, barbecues and much more.

For the past number of weeks, the Friends of Victoria Park have been providing lantern-building workshops to the public to prepare for Saturday’s event.

But don’t worry — if you weren’t able to make it to one of these workshops, there will be a lantern-building station set up all afternoon to prepare for the classic lantern installation.

“The best part about the festival, is how interactive it is,” said The lantern installation at the annual Victoria Park Lantern Festival. Earle. “You make your lantern in the afternoon, and then get to be a part of the installation the same evening.”

At 8:30 p.m. festival-goers will head to the upper part of the park for the lantern installation.

“There are lanterns hanging from the trees, and ‘river jars’ placed on the hill where a river used to flow through,” said Earle. “Everything is glowing, it’s quite incredible.”

Directly following the lantern installation is a special show.

“Our big show this year is our fire show spectacular,” said Earle.

The Spinsters, in partnership with with Cirque’letics and the St. John’s Juggling Club, will work together to dazzle the crowd with their fire show.

There will be flaming torches and hula-hoops, and fire-eaters costumed in a magical array of live flames.

The show will also include aerial acts and juggling in between.

The festival begins at 2 p.m. on Saturday and admission is free for all ages.
