NLSA reveals its top athletes for July

The Newfoundla­nd and Labrador Soccer Associatio­n has announced its senior and junior athletes of the month for July.

Taking the senior women’s honours is Jessie Noseworthy of Holy Cross, the leading scorer in the Breen’s Jubilee Trophy women’s soccer league.

Last month, Noseworthy had seven goals in seven games, all wins by first-place Holy Cross, the defending Jubilee Trophy champions Another player on a firstplace team took senior male honours. Goalkeeper John Douglas of the St. Lawrence Labatt Laurentian­s had four shutouts in the five games he played during July as St. Lawrence picked up 13 of a possible 15 points.

Jessie Ball of the C.B.S. Strikers minor associatio­n and provincial girls under-13 team is the junior female athlete of the month for July. She was the provincial team’s only regulation-time goal scorer at the Atlantic U13 championsh­ip, which saw NL finish third. With the Strikers, she had four goals and assisted on many others as C.B.S. went 6-0-1 and moved into first place in the provincial standings

Daniel Courage of the St. John’s Rep Boys U15s and provincial boys’ under-14 team is the junior male athlete for July.

He was a key player for the NL U14 in its gold-medal win at the Atlantic championsh­ip, scoring a goal in the championsh­ip final. With the St. John’s Rep side, he had five goals, including a hat trick, in July.
