A former employee at a St. John’s Jungle Jim’s restaurant who was charged after protesting outside the business Monday has been released from custody.

Glynda Dinn, 26, was arrested around 4 p.m. Monday after she staged a day-long protest in the parking lot of Jungle Jim’s in Coaker’s Meadow Plaza on Torbay Road.

Police were called to the plaza twice by restaurant owner Cathy Brace, who reported Dinn was protesting outside with several others and disturbing the business. RNC officers came and spoke to Dinn but deemed it a peaceful protest and left.

A little while later, they were called back again. After a short investigation, police charged Dinn with mischief to property, causing a disturbance, theft under $5,000 and common assault, the latter after she allegedly grabbed a woman by the arm.

Dinn posted a number of live videos on Facebook from the parking lot over the course of the day, in which she said she had worked at the restaurant for six years and was once a manager there. She claimed she and other restaurant employees had been treated unfairly and said she is owed $4,000.

“This is boycotting the restaurant,” Dinn said in one of the videos, adding the group had turned between 20 and 30 people away from the business during their protest Monday.

She turned the camera to show a Jungle Jim’s advertising road sign covered with another handmade poster reading, “#f**kjunglejims #boycottjunglejims #beepifyousupport.”

Dinn also posted a video of her arrest on her Facebook page, where she’s seen in handcuffs, being put into the back of a police cruiser by RNC officers.

Brace was unavailable for comment when contacted by The Telegram Tuesday afternoon.

Dinn appeared in provincial court in St. John’s Tuesday morning and was released from custody on a recognizance. She’ll be back before a judge Oct. 2.
