A highly acclaimed restaurant in St. John’s will be one of 92 restaurants across Canada taking part in an event this fall to support low-income neighbourhoods.

On Oct. 18, Mallard Cottage in Quidi Vidi Village — featuring renowned chef Todd Perrin — will participate in “Restaurants for Change 2017: Dine out. Do good,” which will see restaurants in 19 cities serve dinners to raise money to support community food programs across the country.

All proceeds of the event will be donated to the Community Food Centres Canada to share meals and advocate for healthy food.

Perrin is well known among Canadian foodies.

He made it to the Top 8 in the Food Network’s hit series “Top Chef Canada” in 2011.

In 2001, he opened Two Chefs, a fine dining eatery in St. John’s, which in its first year was listed as one of the country Top 50 new restaurants in Canada by enroute Magazine.

In 2008, Perrin opened The Chef’s Inn, a bed and breakfast in downtown St. John’s, where he sources fresh local ingredients from his own backyard, neighbours’ farms and his root cellar.

He opened Mallard Cottage, restoring the 18th-century cottage, in November 2013. It was recognized by Enroute Magazine as No. 5 on its list of Top 10 best new restaurants in Canada 2014.

This year’s Restaurant for Change event is expected to be the biggest yet, with an increase of 26 restaurants from last year.
