Toyota trucks, Datsuns and Marmons

-

The Datsun Sport is still a hot-looking car even after many years. We’re not sure, but this looks like a 1974 model. It was spotted by Pat Walsh of Mount Pearl atop Signal Hill in July. Pat tells us it’s a 280 – “but I don’t know the year. It doesn’t seem to have the distinctive look of the 1977-78 model. Is it newer? Nissan phased-out the Datsun name by 1986. They relaunched it in June 2013. Who sold the cars here before O’neill Motors?” A sight-seeing Toyota truck at St. Kitt’s, eastern Caribbean. Pat Walsh (who emailed us this photo) took the picture in December, 2014. Pat suggests we don’t see many (if any) Toyota trucks around here. We certainly don’t believe we’ve seen any of this style here! On another point, Pat has called our attention to an interesting website, Ideal Classic Cars (out of Venice, Florida). We haven’t explored it very much yet, but it seems chatty, informative, and yes, interesting too. Frequent picture contributor Burton Janes emailed us in July to say, “I recently bought a near-mint 1931 Days Gone By calendar.” The old calendar was produced for Pardy’s Tire & Industrial Ltd., promoted as “a good Newfoundland company,” with branches in Stephenville, Corner Brook, Grand Falls and Gander. Another promotional line, You either

have Goodyear Tires or you need them! The illustration is by Randy Hill. Burton frequently sends us scans of vehicles from the various months in this 1931 calendar.

?? ?? There was a Marmon of this period with a V-16 engine. The car itself was a beauty. It was expensive but short-lived. Visit conceptcarz (and there are other sites) to see this old classic up-close.
