Traffic collisions abound on rain-soaked roads over the weekend
It was a rainy collision-filled Saturday in the St. John’s area with at least four people sent to hospital in two of those incidents.
The first collision of the day saw a car overturn on the Outer Ring road at about 10:30 a.m., sending two adults and an infant to hospital. Injuries were not considered lifethreatening.
A collision on Commonwealth Avenue at about 2 p.m. resulted in minor damage to at least one SUV and slowed traffic in the area but there were no injuries.
At about 4 p.m., a hit and run was reported when a man was apparently struck by a vehicle on Merrymeeting Road and the vehicle’s driver fled the scene. Injuries were minor but no other information was available on incident.
About an hour later, firefighters and police were called to the scene of a collision on Pitts Memorial Drive after a car left the road and drove into the median between Ruth Avenue and Southlands Boulevard. The lone male driver in that incident was not injured.
About an hour later, firefighters and police were called to yet another incident during which a car left the road on an Outer Ring road exit to Portugal Cove Road.
The car was left hanging over an embankment but there were no injuries.
At 7:30 p.m. two cars collided at the intersection of Torbay Road and Elizabeth Avenue, leaving one vehicle straddling a traffic island and sending two people to hospital with injuries that were not considered serious.
At about 10 p.m., two cars collided on Topsail Road east of Cowan Avenue. There were no serious injuries. In all incidents, it was raining in various amounts and roads were wet or covered in heavy water buildup.
