St. John’s screenings of ‘Make It Stop’ sold out

-

Two upcoming St. John’s screenings of a new documentary about Ewing sarcoma, featuring the late Justin Tobin, have sold out.

“Make It Stop,” produced by the Ewings Cancer Foundation of Canada and Creative Focus of Labrador City, includes interviews with Tobin, a local journalist and filmmaker who died of the disease in January. The film was made to raise awareness of Ewing sarcoma, a cancer that is often fatal and affects children, teens and young adults.

According to a news release from the Ewings Cancer Foundation of Canada, the film “was the vision of a handful of parents whose children had been affected by a little known merciless cancer called Ewing sarcoma that everyone who deals with kids would know that sometimes a growing pain could be something more serious. That sports injury which seems more severe than it should be could indicate something else. A bump on a toe that doesn’t go away needs a closer look.”

The Ewings Cancer Foundation of Canada hopes to distribute the documentary, free of charge, to health care specialists who work with kids across the country. It will also be put online. This month — which is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month — the documentary is screening in four locations. It was first screened in Labrador City on Sept. 7, and will show in St. John’s at The Rooms on Sept. 17. Further showings will take place in Richmond Hill, Ont., and Fall River, N.S.
