What was supposed to be a relaxing day at home before a European adventure turned into a stress-filled day for St. John’s woman Danielle Wadden.

On Monday, after a full day of running errands in preparation for her big trip, Wadden went to the bank to exchange $5,000 for approximately 3,500 euros for her trip on the following day.

“I went and picked up a pizza on my way home from the bank,” said Wadden. “I had fully intended on going out to run a few more errands that night, so I left a few of my things in the car, including my wallet.”

Wadden told The Telegram that she locked her car and went into her home. She fell asleep and didn’t wake up until the next morning.

“I woke up Tuesday morning and went to go get my cigarettes from my car,” said Wadden. “When I noticed they weren’t there, I went back in my house to look.

“It wasn’t until I went back out to my car for the second time that I noticed all of my belongings were missing,” said Wadden.

Iphone chargers, cigarettes, loose change and a purse were all missing from the car, but the worst item of all that was nowhere to be found was her wallet holding approximately 3,500 euros.

“I didn’t even get a chance to sit out in the sun this summer,” said Wadden. “I worked morning, noon and night, saving up for this trip.”

On Tuesday morning, Wadden knocked on her neighbours’ doors, hoping to find a witness.

She found out it’s not the first time there has been a robbery on her street.

“The lady across the street told me that her car was stolen right out of her driveway a couple of years ago,” said Wadden.

Wadden told The Telegram that she will still take her trip.

“I’m still going. I have to,” said Wadden.

The RNC confirmed an investigation into the theft is ongoing.
