First impressions
Don-e Coady, creative director and founder of DC Design House sat down with the Telegram to rate a few prominent signs around town, and give his first-blush thoughts.
DARRELL POWER
I think that it’s interesting to the eye. I think that he’s leaning hard on the rant-and-roar independence colours, which is not a bad thing. Love the photo, because he is a facefirst person, who has built a career on his face.
JONATHAN GALGAY
“The design came free with the sign purchase. Um… No. It does not speak to me.”
GREG DUNNE
It has a comic-y nostalgia to it, which speaks to him being fresh and young. I don’t know what he looks like. I don’t know anything about him in the city; I’ve never heard his name, so I’d be interested in what he looks like and how old he is, because I’d expect him to be younger than older with a design like that.
ANDY WELLS
It definitely is trying to paint St. John’s as a Gotham in trouble, which strikes a chord with a lot of people. It gets attention, and the core messages are there. I don’t think the checkmark was needed. Other than that, I find the colour scheme is one that makes me pay attention, because it’s very different.
DANNY BREEN
Clean, classic, corporate, sophisticated conservative. I don’t think the URL was needed. … I don’t think that hashtag was required.
