Students from Memorial University (MUN) continue to be among the world leaders in social enterprise.

A group of those students are in London, U.K., until Sept. 28 to participate in the Enactus World Cup, a global entrepreneurship competition, and will present its social enterprise, “Project Sucseed.”

The MUN delegation is part of more than 3,500 students from 36 countries presenting their initiatives through a community of student, academic and business leaders committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to transform lives and shape a better, more sustainable world.

Enactus Memorial University of Newfoundland designed an inexpensive hydroponic unit to help people grow fresh food in their own homes.

In addition, they also partnered with a local charity to provide at-risk youth with jobs manufacturing the units. They sell their hydroponic units to the public and the profits go toward subsidizing food grown in the North.

In its second year of operation, Project Sucseed serves more than 100 communities, employs more than 100 individuals as hydroponic farmers and generates more than $260,000 in revenue.

Participants also attend a session on the United Nations global goals, a world cultural celebration and an action-leader panel that outlines the sustainability of food and water in the future.

The Enactus World Cup can be watched live at enactus.org/ Worldcup, and the full schedule is available online at enactus. org/worldcup/schedule-2017. In addition to watching online, the event can be followed on social media @enactus_canada, using the hashtag #Enactusworldcup.
