Mavericks commit to Sea-hawks

A pair of St. Kevin’s high school basketball players, who won’t graduate until 2018, have already committed to the Memorial Seahawks.

Mavericks stars Grace Bennett and Emma Power will be Sea-hawks starting in the 2018-19 Atlantic University Sport season.

“I’ve had the opportunit­y to follow both of these girls for quite some time now, and I feel they bring a level of commitment and passion to the game of basketball that will help our program for years to come,” said coach Mark English.

Power is a 5-7 guard, while Bennett is a 6-2 post. Both played on the province’s Canada Games basketball team in Winnipeg last summer. Power was the MVP at the Grade 11 A provincial­s in 2017, an all-star at the 2017 Elite 8, and an all-star at the 2017 4A provincial championsh­ips. She was also a twotime all-star at the Memorial women’s basketball Identifica­tion Camp.

Bennett was an all-star at the 2016 Elite 8 tournament, and is a two-time all-star at the MUN identifica­tion camp. She was named MVP of the 2018 ID camp.
