Hey Rosetta! calling it quits for now

After more than a decade together, local indie rock band Hey Rosetta! has decided to call it quits, at least for the time being.

The band posted a lengthy message on its Facebook page Friday morning, saying two of its members had decided they’d had enough, and the rest weren’t surprised.

“It’s been a dizzying ride. Dizzying like busy, but also more recently, dizzying like when the sand you’re standing on starts shifting and you’re not sure how to act normal,” the band wrote.

“Don’t we all have this thirst for what we’re not at. And doesn’t life never wait.”

Over the past 12 years, Hey Rosetta! has toured the world, released four full albums and five EPS, landed in the No. 1 spot on Canadian itunes and earned a Juno nomination and multiple Musicnl and East Coast Music Awards.

The band will perform its last shows in December: its annual Christmas shows in St. John’s as well as a couple gigs in Toronto.

“Speaking of dreams, we still have them and of a future together, too, and see this break as a dose of reality and separation and stillness and stretching,” Hey Rosetta! wrote, noting the members won’t stop making music. The musicians — including frontman Tim Baker, whose solo album is set to drop next year — will continue working in the music industry, either performing, producing or recording, the band said.
