Flying the poppy
PAL Airlines partners with Royal Canadian Legion to support national remembrance campaign
For the second time in as many years, PAL Airlines is partnering with the Royal Canadian Legion in this province in support of the nation’s veterans.
Throughout the legion’s two-week national poppy campaign, one of PAL’S Dash 8 aircrafts will bear poppy decals on both sides of its tail as it travels throughout the airline’s route network in Newfoundland and Labrador and Quebec.
In addition, PAL will have poppy pins available for a donation at counters in eight of the airports around the province and is encouraging its passengers to donate and wear a pin in support of the cause.
“This supporting of the poppy campaign is very important to all Canadians and the more we can show the poppy in the proper way with proper respect is very important to us,” says Berkley Lawrence, president of the legion’s provincial command.
“For PAL Airlines to come on and get permission from our national headquarters to fly the poppy on their plane, it’s tremendous.”
In 2016, PAL supported the Royal Canadian Legion by flying more than 30 veterans to St. John’s from the province’s west coast and Labrador to participate in the 100th-anniversary commemoration of the Battle of Beaumont Hamel.
“We are delighted to be able to support them once again to remember all the brave women and men who have sacrificed so much for our province and country,” stated Calvin Ash, chief operating officer with PAL Airlines.
