Man dead in highway accident

Police investigat­ing two-vehicle accident near Makinsons Saturday

One man is dead after a deadly highway collision at the overpass of the Hodgewater Line exit, near Makinsons in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Whitbourne RCMP responded to the report of a vehicle travelling westbound in the eastbound lane on the Trans-canada Highway just before 1 a.m.

While en route to the vehicle, officers were notified of a twovehicle collision at the overpass of the Hodgewater Line exit, near Makinsons.

The vehicle that had been travelling westbound in the eastbound lane had collided with a second vehicle.

The 32-year-old man driving of one of the vehicles, an SUV, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two female passengers in the SUV received non-life-threatenin­g injuries in the crash and were brought to hospital.

The driver, and lone occupant of the second vehicle, received minor injuries and was also transporte­d to hospital.

The accident and investigat­ion were responsibl­e for both lanes of the highway being closed until about 6 a.m.

The investigat­ion into the crash is ongoing.
