Downtown St. John’s Christmas Parade is set for Sunday
After last week’s weather postponed the Downtown St. John’s Christmas Parade, it is now set for Sunday, Dec. 3 beginning at 12 p.m.
Santa, along with his parade full of floats, marching bands, dancers and cheerleaders will depart from the Fort William Building on Factory Lane, travelling along Plymouth Road and onto Duckworth Street. The parade then travels west along Duckworth Street to Prescott Street, down Prescott to Water Street, west along Water Street and ending at Springdale Street.
The parade attracts roughly 60,000 spectators each year, making it the largest annual event in the province — and one of the largest food drives, as well.
Remember to bring along a non-perishable food item or loonies and twoonies on Sunday afternoon in support of the Community Food Sharing Association.
Staff and volunteers from NL Power will begin collecting the food at 11:45a.m. Canada Post employees will also be volunteering by collecting all of the letters to Santa, and sending them directly to the North Pole.
Letters can be addressed to Santa Claus, North Pole, H0H 0H0.
Santa will be arriving to St. John’s in style, flying above the crowd with Universal Helicopters.
Spectators can also arrive in style with the Santa Shuttle — a free Park and Ride bus service beginning at 10 a.m. from the Confederation Building parking lot, and also from the parking lot of NL Housing off Columbus Drive.
If the parade is postponed due to poor weather conditions, it will take place on Sunday, Dec. 10 at 12p.m.
Meanwhile, the Mount Pearl Lions Club Santa Claus Parade is taking place on Saturday Dec. 2.
The parade will start at 10 a.m. at Mount Pearl Senior High, making its way down Ruth Avenue, Park Avenue and finishing at Mount Pearl Square.
Spectators can donate food items for St Vincent de Paul Society, or coins for the Community Food Sharing Association.
