The St. John’s Caps came close to posting the East Coast Senior Hockey League’s first win in interlocking play, but after a couple of weekend games in Clarenville, the Central West circuit is a perfect 6-0 when it comes to crossover contests.

The Ecshl-leading Caps and Clarenville Caribous of the WCSHL were tied 2-2 late in their Saturday gettogether at the Eastlink Events Centre, but Chad Earle’s second goal of the game gave the Caribous a 3-2 victory.

It wasn’t nearly as close Sunday afternoon at the EEC, where Clarenville blasted the Northeast Eagles of the ECSHL 14-2. Brad Crann recorded a hat trick for the home side, while Ryan Desrosiers, Keith Delaney and Kenny Mahoney each added two goals for the Ford Caribous.

Northeast dressed just 12 skaters.

The Clarenville games were the first interlocking matchups for all three clubs involved.

Meanwhile, in regular CWSHL action at Joe Byrne Memorial Stadium in Grand Falls, the Grand Falls-windsor Cataracts handed the Gander Flyers their first losses of the season, prevailing 4-3 on Kyle Mcguirk’s overtime tally Saturday night, then following up with a 4-2 victory Sunday afternoon.

Despite the results, the Kelly Ford Flyers continue to hold first place in the CWSHL, three points in front of the Cataracts.

There was one matchup between ECSHL teams on the weekend. That came Friday night at Twin Rinks in St. John’s, where the Green Sleeves Caps defeated the Southern Shore Puglisevich Breakers 3-2 in a shootout.
