RCMP charges 12 with impaired driving
More than 2,500 vehicles stopped during National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day on Dec. 2
The RCMP has charged 12 people with impaired driving related charges as part of its National Impaired Driving initiative held on Dec. 2.
Of these drivers, six were charged with impaired by alcohol, six received roadside suspensions of 90 days or greater for alcohol, four received roadside suspensions of 2 to 14 days for alcohol and two received suspensions for drug impaired driving.
“These drivers were stopped by police before something more serious happened, but we know that the consequences of impaired driving can be tragic and life altering for many people in our communities,” RCMP Supt. Holly Turton stated in a news release.
“Impaired drivers put everyone on the road at risk. We can all play an important role in reducing the chances of a serious or fatal crash by arranging for a designated driver or alternative transportation during the busy holiday season and throughout the entire year.” These drivers were located at the 61 checkpoints held throughout the province from the more than 2,500 vehicles stopped by the RCMP, which conducted the checkpoints across the region to ensure drivers on the province’s roadways are sober and educated about the dangers of getting behind the wheel while impaired by alcohol or drugs.
National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day is a co-ordinated impaired driving enforcement initiative launched by the RCMP in conjunction with National Safe Driving Week.
