New Year’s Eve and early New Year’s Day were busy for the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary with assault charges laid in three separate incidents

A 29-year-old man is facing charges after he allegedly used his vehicle as a weapon during an incident at 1:10 a.m. New Year’s Day on Topsail Road in Mount Pearl.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) initially responded to the call expecting a hit and run incident, but after investigating the incident further determined he purposely used his vehicle as a weapon.

In addition, he was issued a seven-day suspension for blowing a warning amount of alcohol at a roadside sobriety check, was issued a ticket for operating his vehicle with an expired driver’s license and had his vehicle impounded.

His 24-year-old female passenger was discovered to have a warrant out for her arrest.

Both individuals spent the night in lockup and were held for a court appearance.

Earlier, on New Year’s Eve, the RNC arrested a 43-year-old woman for assault and assault with a weapon following a domestic disturbance in the centre part of St. John’s around 8:30 p.m.

There were no injuries in the assault.

The woman was taken into custody pending a court appearance.

In a separate incident, a 56-year-old woman was arrested for assault with a weapon and two breaches of court orders stemming from a domestic disturbance in the city’s West End around 11 p.m. Sunday night.

Nobody was injured in the assault and the woman was held pending a court appearance.

Also Sunday, at 9:35 p.m., the RNC stopped a 46-year-old man on The Boulevard in St. John’s

The driver was operating the vehicle without valid insurance, operating with a suspended license and had failed to transfer the ownership of the vehicle.

The vehicle was impounded and the man was issued tickets and released.
