RNC arrests man for pharmacy break and enter
A St. John’s man was arrested last Friday for the break and enter at Dominion Pharmacy on Blackmarsh Road on New Year’s Day.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary issued a news release on Wednesday afternoon saying that Darryl Denief, 39, had been arrested for the crime that saw a backhoe used to gain access to the Dominion store pharmacy.
A backhoe was stolen from Pipers on Elizabeth Avenue, driven from that location and used to break a large hole in the pharmacy wall.
A large quantity of medications and narcotics were stolen.
Denief was charged with theft over $5,000 and break and enter for the incident, which happened around 6 a.m. on Jan. 1.
He was charged and released from custody and will appear in court in St. John’s on Wednesday, Feb. 14.
To date, none of the stolen pharmaceutical drugs have been recovered and the RNC is again cautioning the public about the dangers of using prescription drugs without clear direction from a medical professional.
Improper use of prescription drugs could lead to serious illness or death.
This investigation is ongoing and police believe other people may have been involved in the commission of these offences. Anyone with additional information on this case or others is asked to call the RNC at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Information can be provided anonymously on the NL Crime Stoppers website at www.nlcrimestoppers.com.
