Police plagued with driver infraction­s

Northeast Avalon, N.L. — It seems like a test of patience lately for police and mindful drivers on roads and highways. Police were once again busy during the weekend spotting drivers who were breaking the law. Offences ranged from intoxicate­d driving to operating a vehicle when the person wasn’t licensed, insured or registered. Here’s the RNC’S roundup:

• A traffic stop at 3:30 Sunday morning in the Conception Bay South area saw police charge a 47-year-old man with impaired driving, failing the Breathalyz­er, and breach of recognizan­ce. The vehicle was seized and he was held for court.

• Around the same time a 19-year-old man was pulled over in the downtown area of St. John’s. He was charged with impaired driving and failing the Breathalyz­er. The vehicle was seized and the driver released to attend court at a later date.

• At 2:35 a.m. Saturday morning police stopped on a vehicle in the centre city area of St. John’s. A 19-year-old male driver provided a breath sample that registered a warning on the approved screening device (ASD). He was given a seven-day suspension under the provincial legislatio­n and the vehicle was impounded.

• Around lunchtime Saturday the RNC responded to a complaint of possible impaired driver in the east end of St. John’s. A 41-yearold man was charged with impaired driving. He was issued a seven-day licence suspension and held for court Sunday morning.

• About 3 p.m. Saturday a 49-year-old man was stopped in St. John’s centre and issued summary offence tickets for driving with a suspended licence and no insurance. The vehicle was impounded.

• Shortly after, at 3:36 p.m. the RNC responded to a report of an impaired driver in St. John’s centre. A 50- year-old man was charged with impaired driving and failing the Breathalyz­er. He was issued a seven-day licence suspension and was released to appear in court at a later date. The vehicle was impounded.

• At 1 p.m. Friday patrol services pulled over a vehicle on Topsail Road. A 25 year-old-man was issued summary offence tickets for a suspended licence, unregister­ed vehicle, and no insurance. The vehicle was impounded.

• At 9 p.m. Friday a traffic stop on Topsail Road resulted in a 60 year-old-man being given a seven-day driving suspension. He had provided a breath sample that registered a warning on the approved screening device (ASD). His vehicle was impounded.

• At 11 p.m. Friday during a traffic stop in the centre city area a 23-year-old woman was give summary offence tickets for operating with a suspended driver’s licence and failing to transfer vehicle ownership. Her vehicle was impounded.

• At 11:15 p.m. on Empire Avenue an 18-year-old male was issued summary offence ticket for operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license. The vehicle was impounded.
