ARNNL Education & Research Trust awards $60,000 to RNS, NPS and Students in support of Nursing Education
The last of two awards ceremonies for 2017 were held in December in St. John’s for the Association of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (ARNNL) Education & Research Trust.
The Trust awarded has awarded more than $60,000 in scholarships and bursaries to 64 registered nurses (RNS) and Nurse Practitioners (NPS), and 11 nursing students.
“Funding and support from the Trust assists RNS, NPS and students in building their skills and furthering their education,” said Janet Templeton, President of the ARNNL Education & Research Trust. “Since 1986, the Trust has awarded over 1,300 scholarships and bursaries and we want to thank our supporters for their contributions.”
The latest recipients are pursuing undergraduate nursing education, master’s and doctoral degrees, nursing research, post-basic courses, specialty certification, and attending continuing education events such as conferences and workshops.
“We believe in advancing nursing excellence,” Lynn Power, executive Director of ARNNL.
In its inception, the trust awarded $5,000 to students in basic nursing programs. Today, the Trust provides 10 times that amount thanks to the financial support of ARNNL’S practising membership — 6,400 RNS and NPS in the province.
RNS, NPS and nursing students are eligible to apply for funding through ARNNL’S Education & Research Trust. Visit www.arnnl.ca/trust to learn about the application process.
ARNNL’S Education & Research Trust Awards held two ceremonies this year, one in the Western region and one in the Eastern region honouring recipients.
The scholarship, valued at $4,500, is awarded to a registered nurse from Newfoundland and Labrador pursuing a doctoral degree who has demonstrated academic excellence during undergraduate and graduate studies, and leadership in the nursing profession and/or community service.
The 2017 recipient of the scholarship is Renee Crossman, a PHD student at MUN School of Nursing. Renee has a keen interest in the humanistic nature of nursing and how our understanding of illness and health care is shaped by the interactions and experiences that we have.
To apply for the scholarship, please see the Canadian Nurses Foundation website (www.cnfficc.ca). Deadline for submission of applications is March 31
