6 p.m.

Dessert Dash Macmorran Community Centre hosts the 2nd annual Dessert Dash, Valentine’s Edition: “Treats for your Sweet.” Tickets $10. Includes homemade stew, roll, tea or coffee, as well as your name entered for a door prize. Desserts will be auctioned off. The highest-bidding table gets first choice of their favourite dessert. This fundraiser is in support of ongoing programs and services within the community. Call the centre for tickets, at 722-1168.

Paws for Celebratio­n

An evening of live entertainm­ent, a silent auction, raffle draws and all-you-can-eat dessert at the Bella Vista on Torbay Road. All proceeds go to Beagle Paws, an organizati­on that rescues and rehomes the province’s most neglected dog breed — beagles. Adult-only event. Tickets $25 at the door or at www.beaglepaws.com.

With no survivors to tell the tale, what can be related about a Newfoundla­nd fish carrier lost at sea during the First World War? Suzanne Sexty and Elizabeth Browne have uncovered more than you might imagine in their research. Listen to the story unfold, and look back to the ship’s origins, its coming to Newfoundla­nd, the crew on its final voyage and the people they left behind. This presentati­on is included with the cost of admission to The Rooms.

“The Gravel Pit Kids” Book Signing Geraldine Ryan-lush will sign copies of her young adult novel, “The Gravel Pit Kids” until 3 p.m. at Coles Bookstore in the Avalon Mall. Published by Black Rose Writing, this novel of friendship between two preteen boys in a small Newfoundla­nd town has received the Readers’ Favourite 5-Star Award, and is an Editors’ Pick in Atlantic Books Today.

8th Annual Cancer Ribbon Fundraiser

Artists at Trouble Bound Tattoos will spend the entire day tattooing cancer ribbons for $100 plus tax each, with all proceeds going to Daffodil Place. Proceeds from T-shirt and art print sales will also be donated.

Frosty’s Big Birthday Party There will be lots of fun things to see and do at the Glacier Arena, including Sky High Amusements, Newfoundla­nd Reptiles, touch tanks, a magic show, face painting, prize draws, birthday cake and Terry Rielly’s Teddy Bear Picnic (12:30 p.m. show time).
