Edge deactivate injured Curcic

-

The National Basketball League of Canada’s St. John’s Edge have deactivated Vasilije Curcic after the forward suffered a knee injury in practice last week. Testing is continuing to determine the severity of the injury, but it’s bad enough to cause the team to make the roster move. The Edge are working on a corresponding transaction to fill the vacancy before leaving Wednesday for a four-game road trip in southern Ontario. Curcic, a former Memorial University star, joined the Edge in December. He played sparingly in 14 games, averaging about 1.5 points and a rebound per contest. Even though was with the Memorial Sea-hawks the last five years, as a native of Serbia, Curcic did not factor in the domestic quota mandated by the league; each NBLC team must carry five Canadian players. That means the Edge aren’t restricted in searching for a replacement. St. John’s (16-9) begins the road trip Thursday in London, Ont., against the Lightning (16-8) in a battle for first place overall in the league.
