Edge release Tyler Haws

There was no announcement of a corresponding move, but the St. John’s Edge have created an opening on their active roster by releasing shooting guard Tyler Haws. The 26-year-old Haws, a former star at Brigham Young University, was signed early last month and appeared in 16 games with St. John’s, starting five of them. He averaged 5.6 points, 1.1 rebounds and 16.4 minutes of floor time in those contests, but only averaged about six minutes of action in the team’s last three contests. Last week, the Edge added two players at the National Basketball League of Canada’s trade deadline, dealing for centre Anthony Stover and signing free-agent forward Xavier Ford. However, since St. John’s already had a full active roster of 12 players, Stover and Ford were placed on the team’s inactive list. Edge head coach/general manager Jeff Dunlap indicated there was a good chance one, or both, would be activated, especially since they would have to appear in six of St. John’s remaining 11 games in order to be playoff eligible.

Stover is in St. John’s and working out with the team. As of Monday, Ford hadn’t joined his new club. As well, guard Colton Ray has also been inactive while recovering from a knee injury, but has been participating in practices recently.

The Edge (18-11) open up a six-game home stand against the KW Titans Friday and Saturday at Mile One Centre. The Titans have just five wins in 27 games this season, but three of them have come against the Edge.
