Nominations open for outstanding volunteers
Nominations are open for the 2018 Newfoundland and Labrador Volunteer Hall of Fame Awards, it was announced Monday by the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Newfoundland and Labrador.
Susan Green, chair of the volunteer hall of fame selection committee, said the spirit of volunteerism is thriving and valued in the province.
“It is a unique bond shared between individuals, organizations and the communities they serve,” Green said.
“We are proud to have recognized so many deserving groups and individuals since 2012 and we are excited to see what tremendous nominees 2018 will bring.”
A news release notes the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Newfoundland and Labrador launched the Volunteer Hall of Fame in 2012 with the goal of honouring, documenting and recognizing the significant efforts of people who have made longstanding volunteer efforts.
Each fall, inductees are honoured at an awards gala celebrating their volunteer achievements. The gala event not only serves to honour some of the province’s most outstanding volunteers, but raises much needed funds to support the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Newfoundland and Labrador in its efforts to nurture the next generation of great volunteers.
The Newfoundland and Labrador Volunteer Hall of Fame is now accepting nominations. Following the close of nominations, a selection committee will review applications, and inductees for 2018 will be announced later this spring.
