They’ll roll for cash at the Classic

The most lucrative cash tournament in Newfoundland bowling is set for next month in St. John’s.

The 2018 Body Quest Classic goes April 20-22 at Holiday Lanes in St. John’s, featuring a guaranteed prize payout of $12,000.

“This is our third event to date, and each event has featured more participants and more payouts, which is a great trend to see,” said Newfoundland Bowling Tour president Melissa Manor. “We’re excited to offer three formats, each uniquely different, yet equally competitive.” Things begin with the High Roller Shootout, sponsored by Corrina Sears TPI Travel Designs. Twelve of the province’s top bowlers have each paid a $250 entry fee to compete the match-play event. Headlining the field are defending national masters singles champion Shane Chafe and seven-time national champion Jennifer Baker.

The 12 competitors have won a combined 25 national titles. Also on tap is the Scotch Doubles event, sponsored by Thompson Financial, giving bowlers the opportunity to compete as a team.

“The format … puts all teams on an even playing field,” Manor said. “We have 36 teams entered, and participants include competitive bowlers and recreational bowlers of all ages and abilities.

“This is a unique format as it gives all bowlers the opportunity to experience an NBT event. We feel it’s a great way to introduce new bowlers to the Tour.”

The main event features over 80 bowlers competing for the 2018 Body Quest Classic title. Defending NBT champion Brandon Tibbs is entered along with Chafe, Baker, Mike Maloney, Brad Glynn, Dave Hann Jr., and Meagan Gallicano, as well as up-andcoming youth bowlers such as Katie Wells and Noah Kelly. The event has a double shift qualifier, with the top 24 advancing to a bracket-style playoff format.
