Doug House recognized by Public Policy Forum
Doug House will be the first person from this province to be recognized at the Public Policy Forum’s Atlantic Dinner and Frank Mckenna Awards.
Since 2013, the awards, named in honour of the three-term New Brunswick premier, have been presented to Atlantic Canadians who have built bridges between sectors, contributed to public policy and shown exceptional leadership. House’s career has included considerable experience in both academia and public service.
In academia, House served as head of sociology at Memorial University, research director at the Institute of Social and Economic Research, and president of the Atlantic Association of Sociologists and Anthropologists. He obtained an honours degree from MUN, a master’s degree from Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes Scholar, and a PHD from Mcgill University.
In public service, House served as chairman of the Royal Commission on Employment and Unemployment and the Economic Recovery Commission 1989 to 1996. Provincially, House chaired the board for Enterprise Newfoundland and Labrador Corp., co-chaired the Task Force on Community Economic Development, was a deputy minister of Innovation, Trade and Rural Development and now serves as deputy minister for the Provincial Development Plan.
House was invested as a Member of the Order of Canada in 2001.
The awards are being presented today at the Fredericton Convention Centre in conjunction with a summit focused on immigration and retention.
