CFUW Book Collection The Canadian Federation of University Women St. John’s is collecting gently used books for their Great Big Book Sale coming up May 14-16. Books can be dropped off between Monday and Saturday from 11 a.m to 3 p.m., and Sunday from 1-3 p.m. We accept fiction and non-fiction for all ages and interests. We cannot take encyclopedias, textbooks, Readers’ Digest Condensed Books, magazines, or outdated technology manuals. Located in Woodgate Plaza on Kenmount Road between Toys R Us and Quiznos. Active Start Playgroup Recreation staff will be on site at Paul Reynolds Community Centre to develop fundamental movement skills and physical literacy through active play. The playgroup is designed for children up to age five and their parents/caregivers. It’s free for children under two years old, and is $3 for children aged two to five. Family History Society Lecture A lecture by Shane O’dea, professor of English and public orator at Memorial. O’dea has long been involved with preservation in Newfoundland and his topic is “The Genealogy of a House: Researching an 1834 Structure in John’s.” The meeting will be held at Hampton Hall, Marine Institute, Ridge Road.
