Owen Daly of St. John’s, a Canada Summer Games silver medalist in 2013, enjoyed a superb RBC 2018 Canadian swimming championship which clewed up over the weekend in Montreal.

Competing for Montreal’s CAMO club, the 22-year-old Daly won three gold medals, a silver and bronze.

He was first in the 50-metre butterfly in a time of 23.99 seconds, and tied with Alexandre Perreault for first in the 100 butterfly in 53.61. He was also part of the CAMO 4x100m medley relay first-place team.

He was just short of a sixth medal, placing fourth in the 200m freestyle final in 1:52.01.

Daly is a former member of the St. John’s Legends and Memorial University Sea-hawks.

Kate Sullivan of the Mount Pearl Marlins and Noah Cumby of the Legends also competed in the meet, which featured some of the country’s top junior swimmers.

Meanwhile, Cumby named to Canada’s team for the Junior Pan Pacific championships this summer in the south Pacific.

The 17-year-old Cumby — he turns 18 in July) — will be part of a 29-member team (16 females, 13 males).

The Junior Pan Pacifics will take place Aug. 23-27 in Suva, Fiji.

The announcement came at the conclusion of the nationals, which also served as trials for the junior teams.

Cumby, a Holy Heart senior who will attend — and swim for — Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas beginning this fall, swam in two freestyle events at the senior nationals, finishing sixth in the 100 metres and 19th overall in the 50m.

A member of Swim Canada’s national team identification squad, aimed at helping develop athletes for Canadian relay teams for the 2020 Summer Olympics, Cumby was the 2016-17 Swimming NL male swimmer of the year.
