Have your say on N.L. government automobile insurance review

-

Got something to say about automobile insurance in this province? The provincial government wants to hear from you.

On Monday, the government launched its public consultations process that is aimed to complement the industry review currently underway by the Public Utilities Board (PUB).

Last July, the government provided the terms of reference to the PUB to conduct public consultations, as well as two independent closed claims studies: one on the rising automobile insurance claims costs, and a second specifically focused on claims related to taxi operators. Insurance rates have steadily increased over the 12 years since the last review of the province’s insurance industry.

Any changes would be introduced in the House of Assembly this fall.

“We launched a review of the automobile insurance industry to help modernize the system in an effort to provide greater benefits and better value for the residents of the province,” Service NL Minister Sherry Gambin-walsh stated in a news release. “It is our hope that we will find solutions that will benefit consumers and help bring stability to the industry.” Citizens can complete a questionnaire at Engagenl.ca, share feedback via email to autoinsurance@gov.nl.ca or send feedback by mail to the financial services regulation division.

The consultation period ends on May 31.
