Wessex Society

Sir Robert Bond was Newfoundla­nd’s prime minister from 1900 to 1908. Among his legacies were the Grand Falls pulp and paper mill and persuading the British government to end French fishing rights along the so-called French Shore. Many argue that he was Newfoundla­nd’s greatest prime minister. But was he? James Hiller, professor emeritus of history at Memorial University and widely recognized as one of Newfoundla­nd and Labrador’s eminent historians, will answer the question at the Wessex Newfoundla­nd Society. The society meets at Hampton Hall at 8 p.m. All are welcome, and admission is free.
