MONDAY, APRIL 23 Seniors 10:30 a.m. Seniors’ Walking Group
Looking to go for a walk, but find it too cold or slippery? We have an amazing walking group at Cowan Heights United Church. Join us in the auditorium Monday, Wednesday, and Friday each week from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Admission is $1.
Causes 12 p.m. Spring Cleaning Meditation
Come for a guided meditation into your inner psyche that will clean out those cob webs and old gunk while making way for the new. No previous meditation experience needed. This is by donation with funds going to The Gathering Place. Spring Cleaning Meditation is part of the Lunchtime Learning sessions happening at the Wellness Studio above ETC Gifts on Water Street. The Lunchtime Learning program will run from 12:10 p.m. to 12:50 p.m., allowing you time to travel to and from work. Children 11 a.m. Active Start Playgroup
Caregivers get active with the little ones up to age five at the Paul Reynolds Community Centre’s active playgroup. Recreation staff will be on site to develop fundamental movement skills and physical literacy through active play. Cost is $3 per child aged two to five. Children under age two can participate free of charge.
Art Ongoing Artssmarts deadline
Artsnl is accepting online applications from schools, school boards or groups of schools to operate Artssmarts projects. Artssmarts provides funding to schools to bring professional artists into the classroom to help teachers and students integrate arts activities into non-arts subject areas. TUESDAY, APRIL 24 Art 11 a.m. ‘Pause’
“Pause” features watercolours
and mixed media drawings by Tia Connolly, Bonnie Leyton, Virginia Mitford and April White. All of the works invite viewers to take a moment to pause and consider an overlooked moment or experience. This exhibition will be at The Leyton Gallery of Fine Art until May 6.
6 p.m. Earth Day Art Contest
Rabbittown Community Centre is hosting an Earth Day art contest. Bring in any kind of artistic creation – a sculpture, drawing, poem, culinary creation, and so on—be as creative as you can be! Whatever you create, it must be made out of 100 per cent recycled material. For example, paint can be made from tea stains and beet juice, or culinary creations can be made from things you’d normally throw out. All ages can participate. There will be two groups for judging: ages up to and including 12 years old, and ages 13 and up, with Cineplex gift cards for the winners. Snacks, tea and coffee will be provided.
Causes 7 p.m. Weekly Crib Game

Children 10:30 a.m. Big Fun for Little People
Bring your child along every Tuesday and join us at The Rooms for Big Fun. The program – designed for children aged two to four years old – features stories, songs, puppets, games and crafts for children and their guardian. Afterwards, head upstairs to The Rooms Café for a complimentary tea or coffee and a chance to visit with other adults.
This program is included with the cost of admission.
3:30 p.m. Pokémon Club

Information 5:30 p.m. Tool Library Open House and Community Night
Do you have questions on how to use a particular tool? We’ll have skilled people on hand at the St. John’s Tool Library (151 Empire Ave.) to demonstrate safe tool use. Do you just want to discuss a project you have planned? We have a large whiteboard and lots of creative minds. Let’s talk! Do you have a project in mind, but don’t know which tools you need? Or, maybe you are just considering a membership and have questions. Drop in anytime between 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
6:30 p.m. Backyard Composting
The City of St. John’s, in partnership with the MMSB and MUN Botanical Garden, are offering free backyard composting information sessions to residents of St. John’s. This one-hour session is at the Paul Reynolds Community Centre (35 Carrick Dr.). You can purchase a standard compost bin for $50 or a tumbler bin for $75 (HST included). These sessions are for St. John’s residents only. You can attend a free backyard composting information session without registering — just show up! If you will be purchasing a bin after the session, cash will be the only method of payment. Receipts will be provided.

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 25 Books 7 p.m. Ted Drover Ships Artist
Please join us for the official launch of Sheilah Mackinnon Drover’s book, Ted Drover Ships Artist at the Railway Coastal Museum. Sheilah will give us a brief introduction to her book, with photographic reproductions of Ted Drover’s vessels on display. She’ll also be signing copies with purchase available on site. Boyd Chubbs will be joining us on guitar and light refreshments will be available.
Children Ongoing Fluvarium’s Summer Nature Camps
Registration is now open for The Fluvarium’s Summer Nature Camps, designed to capture the interest and the imagination of young campers ages six through 12. Fish on Long Pond, swim at the Aquarena, relax in the forest, and explore nature through engaging and thoughtprovoking programs.
