Fluvarium’s Summer Nature Camps Registration is now open for The Fluvarium’s summer nature camps, designed to capture the interest and the imagination of young campers ages six through 12. Fish on Long Pond, swim at the Aquarena, relax in the forest and explore nature through engaging and thought-provoking programs. Camp cost is $165 (plus HST) and campers will be provided with a T-shirt. Limited space is available, and some weeks fill fast, so call 754-3474 to register.

An Introduction to Beekeeping The NLBKA, in partnership with the MUN Botanical Garden, will discuss the basics of honey beekeeping. This session is designed to show people who know very little about honeybees what equipment is needed, books to read and courses to take in preparation for keeping honeybees. Residential options for those on the spectrum
Join the Autism Society of Newfoundland and Labrador for an evening to discuss residential options for those on the autism spectrum. Hear from a mother, an aunt, a woman on the spectrum, a housing advocate and an autism professional about the unique realities those on the spectrum face when looking for a place to live. Panelists include Trudy Goold, Jacqueline Cooke, David Philpott, Bruce Pearce and Janet Miller Pitt. The discussion will be moderated by Anthony Germain. Doors open at 7 p.m. at the Suncor Energy Hall at the MUN school of music, with discussion beginning at 7:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend. The exhibition runs until May 31, and is a companion show to the Art of the Plant national juried exhibition in Ottawa and worldwide exhibitions scheduled for May in 25 countries on six continents. Craft Exhibition Opening Receptions
Opening receptions from 5:307:30 p.m. at the Craft Council of Newfoundland and Labrador Gallery, 59 Duckworth St., for “Beach Explorations” by Rosalind Ford and Anna Murphy (Main Gallery) and “Formation: 25 Years in Clay” curated by Wendy Shirran (Annex Gallery). The whimsical world of “Beach Explorations” is a space teeming with vibrant creatures and precious memories, where artists use natural dyes, felting, sewing, embroidery and other textile techniques to bring this seascape to life. “Formation: 25 Years in Clay” brings together the work of over 25 ceramic artists who have created in the studio over the years, in celebration of the Craft Council Clay Studio’s 25th anniversary. This exhibition presents a timeline of their legacies in a fresh, contemporary display replete with beauty.

These two accomplished artists will discuss their relationships to the works and reveal how they were created, and the complex and inventive processes of recreating the natural world through embroidery, felt, sewing, textile construction and hand-dyed fabrics.
