Two people taken away in handcuffs outside Pizza Pros in St. John’s

-

Police made two arrests shortly after noon Saturday outside Pizza Pros at the corner of Ricketts Road and Prince of Wales Street.

RNC officers arrested a man and a woman.

The man was put in the back of an unmarked police car, and the woman was put in the back of another police car.

Also leaving the scene was another police cruiser with a man in the back, but it is unknown if that was related to the two arrests.

There were two police cruisers, one police truck and one unmarked police car at the scene.

An RNC officer spoke with an employee inside Pizza Pros after the arrests were made.

The Telegram spoke with a worker at Pizza Pros who said the arrests did not have anything to do with the Pizza Pros location.

“I work in the store here,” said Ken Kennedy. “I think there was some sort of commotion with two people and that’s all that I know. All of a sudden there was a bunch of cops in front of the store. … I heard through the grapevine that somebody pulled an armed robbery somewhere else, not here, and then whatever happened they ended up here.”

RNC Sgt. Harnum confirmed there was a report of an armed robbery in the east end of St. John’s Saturday.

“There’s an ongoing investigation,” said Harnum.

“We’re very early into everything here. We’re trying to determine if one is related to the other.”

Kennedy said he was in the back of Pizza Pros prepping food when he noticed the commotion outside, but he couldn’t see how many people were arrested.
